Fritz Leiber first introduced the story in Flashing Swords! #3: Warriors and Wizards (August 1976), before later including it in the Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser series collection Swords and Ice Magic (July 1977), featuring cover art by Michael Whelan.
“The Frost Monstreme” and “The Fire Divine” that were written by Greg… Greg’s two songs are a link back to our roots with Frost And Fire.

The song ‘Frost And Fire’ was inspired by Fritz Leiber’s Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser series. One of the stories was entitled “The Frost Monstreme”. I wanted to write a song about that and I thought we needed an element to combat the frost – ‘The Fire Divine’. So, the two opposites of the frost and the fire. I revisited that theme on the ‘Forever Black’ album with those two songs.
