The official seal, as seen on the reverse of the U.S. $1 bill, contains a multi-level symbolic structureโalmost like a five-story emblemโeach with deep historical or ideological meaning:
- level (top): โAnnuit cลptisโ โ Latin for โ[He] favors our undertakingsโ. Refers to Divine Providence or the eye of God watching over and blessing the USA effort.
- level: The Eye of Providence โ often associated with Freemasonry, it symbolizes divine guidance and enlightenment, hovering above the pyramid as a radiant, all-seeing eye.
- level: The unfinished pyramid โ with 13 layers to represent the original 13 colonies, the pyramid signifies strength and endurance. The fact that it’s unfinished represents future growth and the evolving nature of the republic.
- level: The Roman numerals MDCCLXXVI (1776) โ Found at the base of the pyramid, marking the year of USA independence.
- level (bottom): โNovus Ordo Seclorumโ โ Latin for โNew Order of the Agesโ. It represents a new era that began with the founding of the United States, and its break from old European monarchies.
These motifs even echo in Cirith Ungolโs emblematic visualsโparticularly their logo and pyramid forms. Similar themes can be found in other bands as well, like Hades on Resisting Success.
