The DAW Books collection features an incredible range of stories, including works by Michael Moorcock (creator of Elric), Fritz Leiber, Karl Edward Wagner, Stephen King, Jack Vance, Clark Ashton Smith, Robert E. Howard (creator of Conan), L. Sprague de Camp (Conan stories), Ken Kelly, and even Christopher Lee (The King of Elfland’s Daughter, The Lord of the Rings). The series also includes the The Year’s Best Fantasy Stories, The Year’s Best Horror Stories, The Great Science Fiction Stories, The Great SF Stories, World’s Best SF, Terra SF: The Year’s Best European SF, Sword and Sorceress, among other compilations and standalone works. The publisher was established in Nov 1971.
Michael Whelan’s artwork frequently appears on DAW covers, often depicting Elric or other themes from Moorcock’s universe.
- DAW Books is short for Donald Allen Wolheim (01 Oct 1914 – 02 Nov 1990) Science Fiction Books. SF = Science Fiction. Original logo from 1972 (DAW Books No. 1) til May 1984 (DAW Books No. 580) until it was changed from Jun 1984.
